Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing worsening internal strife and persistent leadership conflicts within the party.

In a resignation letter dated June 27 and addressed to the PDP Chairman in his Otukpo Ward, Benue Stat on Wednesday, Mark lamented that the party had strayed far from its founding principles, becoming fractured and publicly discredited.

The letter, titled “Notice of Resignation from the PDP,” read in part:

“I extend warm greetings to you and all members of the PDP in Otukpo Ward 1, and by extension, the entire Benue State and Nigeria. I write to formally resign my membership of the party, effective immediately.”

Mark highlighted his long-standing loyalty to the PDP, noting that even after the party’s defeat in the 2015 presidential election, he chose to stay behind while many others left.

He recalled his role in attempts to rebuild and reposition the PDP, but noted that recent developments had left the party in disarray.

“Unfortunately, growing internal divisions, unending leadership tussles, and irreconcilable conflicts have stripped the PDP of its strength and integrity, subjecting it to ridicule,” he stated.

After extensive consultations with his family, close allies, and political partners, Mark revealed that he had chosen to align with the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, a newly formed political bloc aimed at safeguarding democracy and reviving national progress.

Senator Mark and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, have been named interim National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, of the soon-to-be-launched coalition platform under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
