As part of activities marking its 50th anniversary, the University of Ilorin is set to honour 65 distinguished Nigerians, including notable alumni at a special investiture ceremony scheduled for July 16, 2025.
The event, titled “Investiture Ceremony of UNILORIN Ambassadors, Distinguished Alumni, and Award of Excellence,” will take place at the university auditorium at 11:00 a.m.
Among the honourees is Prof. Emeritus Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, the 8th Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Others include Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, Dr. Adeyemi Murtadha Adeniji, Prof. Temidayo Oladiji (Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure), Mr. Babatunde Omotowa (former MD, NLNG), Dr. AWA Ibrahim (renowned accountant), Dr. Sarah Alade (former CBN Deputy Governor), Mrs. Kemi Nandap (Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service), and Mr. Eniola Bello, Managing Director of ThisDay Newspapers.
Also to be honoured are Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah (former VC, University of Abuja), Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi (VC, Federal University Lokoja), Prof. David Durosomo, and Justice Asmau Tanwa Akanbi, among others.
In a statement released on Sunday, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, quoted the chairman of the Awards Planning Committee, Prof. AbdulRasheed Adeoye, as saying the ceremony aims to celebrate individuals who have excelled in their careers, elevated the university’s reputation, and contributed significantly to its growth.
According to the committee, the honours will include:
Award of Excellence to one alumnus and one distinguished Nigerian,
Distinguished Alumni Awards for 10 recipients,
Investiture of 50 individuals and three graduating sets as UNILORIN Ambassadors.
“The ceremony is both a recognition of our honourees’ achievements and a moment of pride for the entire UNILORIN family,” Adeoye said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), will serve as chief host, while eminent legal scholar and Professor of Practice, Mallam Olaolu Ali (SAN), is scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
