Iran announced on Thursday that at least 12 journalists and media personnel lost their lives in Israeli airstrikes during the recent conflict between the two nations, according to state-run media.

The IRNA news agency reported that the media division of the Basij, a unit under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, confirmed the updated death toll after identifying two more victims among media workers.

The group accused Israel of intentionally targeting media facilities in an effort to “silence the voice of truth” and suppress outlets aligned with the so-called “Resistance Front” — a term Iran uses for itself and its allies opposed to Israeli policies.

This statement comes as overall casualty numbers from the 12-day war, which began on June 13 with an unexpected Israeli offensive, continue to climb. The Israeli campaign included heavy airstrikes on Iranian military bases, nuclear infrastructure, and civilian neighborhoods.

Among the targets hit was the Iranian state broadcaster’s headquarters in northern Tehran.

According to Iranian officials, the conflict resulted in the deaths of senior military figures, nuclear scientists, and hundreds of civilians, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 1,060.

In response, Iranian missile and drone strikes killed at least 28 people in Israel, based on official reports.
