Precious Okolie, CEO of Tunesbid Limited, has asserted that popular singer Ayorinde Mafoluku, widely known as Ayo Maff, must fulfil his contractual obligations with the label.
Speaking to Sunday Scoop, Okolie said, “He must honour his contract. We have invested significantly in his career, and it’s only fair we recover our investment. If there’s a need to renegotiate, it should be done the right way.”
The disagreement stems from alleged contract breaches between Ayo Maff and the label. In a statement released during the week, Tunesbid claimed it had invested heavily in the artiste, promoting several of his singles—including Street Anthem, 7 Days, and Dealer.
However, the label alleged that Ayo Maff and his team bypassed them to engage directly with Empire Distribution, a global music distribution company, regarding two of his Extended Play (EP) albums.
The statement further accused the artiste and his managers Oyefeso Oluwamayowa Olumide, Okolie Arnold Chiedu, and Oyefeso Ayotunde of intentionally deceiving the label. According to Tunesbid, despite ongoing negotiations and the label funding the production of songs intended for release under Empire, Ayo Maff’s team failed to sign the official distribution contract and instead pursued separate talks with Empire.
Tunesbid claims that multiple attempts were made to resolve the matter amicably, including mediation and formal communication, but due to lack of cooperation, legal action is now being considered.
Responding to the accusations, Ayo Maff’s manager, Ayotunde Oyefeso, alleged that the label itself had failed to meet financial commitments outlined in the contract.
He stated that the contract promised a N100 million advance, to be paid in N25 million quarterly installments, none of which were received except for a token N100 reportedly given by the label’s CEO.
Oyefeso added, “Despite Ayo’s success, he had no apartment and had to squat with friends. The label also collects 100% of his royalties and performance fees. What’s left for the artiste to survive on?”
As the dispute continues, both parties appear set for a potential legal showdown over the future of Ayo Maff’s career and contract.
