Linda Yaccarino, the Chief Executive Officer of X (formerly Twitter), has resigned after serving for two years. The social media platform, owned by Elon Musk, saw Yaccarino announce her exit in a post on X on Wednesday, though she did not give a specific reason for stepping down.

She hinted that the company was moving into “a new chapter” after its recent acquisition by Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI.

“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of 𝕏,” Yaccarino wrote, reflecting on her journey. She recalled her initial conversations with Musk and how his vision for X inspired her to take on what she described as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Expressing gratitude to Musk for the trust placed in her, Yaccarino said she was honored to have led efforts to protect free speech, reshape the company, and transform X into the envisioned “Everything App.”

She commended the X team for their dedication, highlighting achievements such as improving user safety, especially for children, regaining advertiser confidence, and launching features like Community Notes and the upcoming X Money.

Yaccarino stated that the platform has become “a true digital town square” and credited its success to the collective efforts of its users, partners, and internal team. She concluded by saying the best is yet to come with X’s new direction under xAI.

Elon Musk, who also leads Tesla and SpaceX, had appointed Yaccarino in May 2023 following his \$44 billion acquisition of the platform. Yaccarino, previously a top advertising executive at NBC Universal, officially took over in June 2023, succeeding Musk, who had temporarily held the CEO role.
