The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, as its new National Chairman.

His appointment was confirmed on Thursday during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja. Yilwatda takes over from Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned from the position last month.

Here are five things to know about the new APC chairman:

1. Early Life: Yilwatda was born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.

 

2. Political Ambition: He was the APC’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections in Plateau State.

 

3. Electoral Experience: From July 2017 to December 2021, he served as the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State, an appointment made by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

 

4. Academic Career: A professor of Electrical Engineering, he also served as Director of ICT at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for 12 years.

 

5. Personal Life: Yilwatda is a Christian and is married to Dr. Martina Goshwe.
