Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has taken a swipe at suspended Kogi Central lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing her attempted return to the Senate as another act in what he called a “skit-making” series.
Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Tuesday, Adaramodu criticised Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent attempt to resume legislative duties, suggesting it was more about theatrics than governance.
“The National Assembly has serious responsibilities. We are lawmakers, not spectators in a drama series or content creation set,” he said.
Adaramodu noted that what began as political posturing had morphed into what he described as a “season film.”
“Initially, I said this whole saga was about content creation. Now that the content has been created, it is degenerating into a drama series. We are lawmakers, not actors,” he added.
The Senate spokesperson also addressed claims by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan that a court had nullified her suspension, emphasizing that the enforcement of any judicial ruling must follow the proper legal procedures.
“Even when a judgment is secured, enforcement must go through the legal channels. Litigants cannot enforce court orders by themselves, that is the role of the court bailiff,” Adaramodu stated.
He insisted that the Senate would not recognize any self-proclaimed return until all due processes were followed.
Insight Media recalls that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months earlier this year. On Tuesday, she attempted to return to the National Assembly, claiming a court had overturned her suspension.
However, she was denied entry as security operatives blocked her convoy, prompting her to walk into the premises on foot.
Despite her claims, the Senate has not yet formally acknowledged the court ruling or permitted her return to the chamber.
