Former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu has dismissed rumors of a rift between President Bola Tinubu and his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, stating that the relationship between the two remains intact.
During an appearance on Trust TV’s “30 Minutes” on Monday, Shehu clarified that there is no official dispute between the two leaders, who both remain committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“People can have their opinions, but officially, there’s no fallout or distrust between Buhari and Tinubu,” Shehu said.
He reiterated Buhari’s continued loyalty to the APC, highlighting the former president’s appreciation for the party that supported his successful bids for office.
“Buhari is still solidly in the APC. He has consistently said he would never turn his back on the party that gave him two terms in office,” he added.
Addressing suggestions that Buhari’s loyalists might be dissatisfied with the current administration or party direction, Shehu waved off the claims.
“We see those reports, but to say we’re disturbed? That wouldn’t be accurate,” he responded.
Shehu also recalled the challenging process of forming the APC in 2014, arguing that those who were part of that effort remain committed to its unity.
“Bringing together the opposition back then required real sacrifice. Those who were part of that struggle know better than to pull it apart.”
