Ademola Adeleke

The Senior Special Assistant to the Osun State Governor on Media, Mr. Oladele Bamiji, has debunked speculations that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the governor remains committed to the PDP and the people of Osun.

Bamiji, who spoke in an online interview (Insightful moment) with Jare Tiamiyu in Osogbo, commended the people of Osun for their steadfast support, describing Governor Adeleke as “a political hurricane” that no opposition party can defeat in the state.

“I give kudos to the people of Osun State for believing in our governor. He still remains in the PDP, and I always tell people that he has no plan to defect to the APC,” Bamiji stated.

Addressing the recent wave of defections in the state, Bamiji said it was driven by personal ambition and political miscalculations. “People are looking for platforms to manage their ambitions. Some moved too fast for their own good — faster than their shadows,” he noted.

He also clarified that he was unaware of any House of Representatives members defecting from the PDP and emphasized that leaving a party does not guarantee political success.

Bamiji further explained that political figures like Hon. Wole Oke, Baba Ajagunla, and Senator Fadahunsi had distanced themselves from the party before the last gubernatorial election. Yet, according to party laws, the governor remains the leader of the party in the state.

“The so-called bigwigs may have left, but the people stayed. That’s what matters. Governor Adeleke’s strength comes from the people, and unity among them has brought him this far,” he added.

He praised the governor’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, and investment-friendly initiatives, noting that Adeleke has performed excellently and deserves a second term.

“If the constitution allowed for a third term, the people would gladly support him again,” Bamiji said, affirming that the governor’s connection with the grassroots remains his biggest asset.
