Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has emphasized that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged united and stronger following its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

He described the outcome as a win not just for the party, but also for Nigeria’s democracy.

Despite a police disruption at the PDP National Secretariat just before the meeting, party leaders proceeded as planned and reached a consensus to present a united front.

In a personal statement released after Monday’s session, Saraki highlighted the party’s commitment to peace and cohesion above all else.

“Today, the Peoples Democratic Party held its milestone 100th NEC meeting. This could have been a moment of division amid recent tensions, but thankfully, it became a turning point toward progress. There were no winners or losers the PDP as a whole is the victor.
Nigeria’s democracy benefits too, as a strong opposition is vital for a healthy democratic system. Millions of PDP members across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas share in this victory.”

Saraki added that party leaders agreed to put aside their differences and focus on collaboration going forward.

“To ensure success for the party and Nigerians alike, our leaders committed to leaving past disputes behind, rebuilding trust, and embracing peace.”

He expressed confidence about the PDP’s future as Nigeria’s principal opposition party.

“I am especially encouraged by two key outcomes, first, our unanimous agreement on unity sends a powerful signal that the PDP will continue to strengthen and fulfill the hopes of Nigerians who view us as the best alternative.
Second, the meeting was characterized by genuine dialogue and compromise.”

Looking ahead, Saraki said preparations are underway for the next NEC meeting on July 23 and the upcoming National Convention.

“As chairman of the National Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, I appreciate all leaders, especially those who made important concessions to foster peace and unity.”

He praised the party’s leaders for prioritizing the PDP’s stability, refuting rumors of internal collapse.

“We have proven wrong those who doubted us. Our demonstrated unity counters claims that some within seek to weaken the party instead of strengthening it. Our resolve is to build a powerful opposition that can win the next general election and better serve Nigerians.”

Saraki closed by thanking PDP members nationwide and urging everyone to maintain the positive momentum from the NEC meeting.

“Once again, I thank all our leaders and members for their unwavering dedication.”
