The Northern Senators Forum has strongly condemned the recent massacre of at least 35 civilians in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

In a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja, the Forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He noted with dismay that many of the victims had reportedly paid ransom prior to their deaths.

“This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the deepening insecurity across the country,” Yar’adua stated. “We strongly denounce this atrocity. It is completely at odds with the North’s values of peace, hospitality, and unity.”

The Forum expressed solidarity with the people of Zamfara and offered prayers for the victims and their families.

“We share in the grief of the Zamfara community and pray for the souls of the departed. May Allah comfort their families and grant them the strength to endure this painful loss,” the statement read.

Calling for urgent action, the senators urged security agencies to intensify efforts in preventing further attacks.

“We call on security agencies to work closely with local vigilante groups to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. Intelligence gathering and proactive response mechanisms must be significantly improved,” they said.

The Forum also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to bolster national security, particularly in the areas of funding and recruitment, while advocating for sustained training and capacity-building of personnel to boost efficiency.
