Former Ekiti State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed deep concerns over the party’s future, predicting that it may struggle to secure even fourth place in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose stated that ongoing internal issues within the PDP are weakening its position nationally.
“At the rate we’re going, with serious prayers, the PDP might just come fourth in the 2027 elections,” he said.
Fayose blamed the party’s decline on persistent internal conflicts, lack of unity, poor leadership, and the defection of influential members. He criticized the PDP’s inability to present a compelling vision to Nigerians, saying the party had become too feeble to assert any meaningful political influence.
“There’s a lot wrong with our party. Associating with the PDP these days is embarrassing. The party is too weak to take hold of anything,” Fayose stated.
He boldly predicted the order of the next presidential election results “APC will come first, Peter Obi will come second, ADC will come third, and PDP will come fourth—mark my words.”
Fayose also condemned the leadership of the PDP, accusing it of sidelining loyal members despite their years of service and sacrifice.
“The soul of the PDP is gone. The spirit is gone. Only the shell remains. Key figures have left, and the party is now a carcass,” he said.
Despite his criticism, Fayose reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP but ruled out ever joining rival parties.
“I’ve paid my dues in the PDP. I’ll remain a member. But if I ever leave, I’ll go home—not to the APC, ADC, or Labour Party.”
