The Kano State Police Command has taken 11 students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, into custody over the alleged murder of two of their fellow students.

This was confirmed by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna, in a message sent to PUNCH Online on Thursday.

According to Haruna, the arrested students are currently being questioned to assess the extent of each individual’s involvement in the fatal incident.

“Eleven students were arrested over the incident and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” he stated.

He assured the public that the police would ensure the case is thoroughly investigated and all those responsible brought to justice.

On the state government’s end, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the deaths. The directive was issued via the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during a visit to the school on Wednesday.

The deceased students—Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa—were allegedly killed by fellow students using makeshift metal weapons known locally as “Gwale-Gwale.”
