Former Osun State Governor and ex-National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is under significant pressure to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Arise News’ Prime News on Thursday, Oyinlola described the situation as a recurring tactic by ruling parties to pressure elected officials into switching allegiances.
“It feels horrible,” he said. “But the truth is, there’s always massive pressure from the ruling party on elected officials. That’s why you see so many defections.”
Oyinlola said Governor Adeleke has resisted these pressures because defecting to the APC could spell the end of his political career in Osun, where the party’s popularity has waned.
“If he joins APC, it would be political suicide. The people of Osun are not with them, and he knows it,” he added.
Although confirming the sustained pressure on Adeleke, Oyinlola firmly ruled out any possibility of his own defection, describing himself as a “battle-tested general.”
“No amount of pressure will move me. I’ve been a military administrator, a civilian governor, and PDP national secretary. I’m not new to battles,” he asserted.
