Tijani, the son of the late iconic singer Onyeka Onwenu, has paid tribute to his mother on the first anniversary of her death.
In a touching message shared on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, he wrote “A year ago, today. RIP mom. July 30, 2024.”
Onwenu, fondly remembered as the Elegant Stallion, passed away shortly after delivering a stunning performance at the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos, where doctors fought to save her life but she sadly did not survive.
At the time of her death, her children released a statement describing her as an “icon and legend”, praising her impactful career in music, film, and humanitarian work. “She is greatly loved and missed,” they said.
Onyeka Onwenu’s legacy lives on through her timeless albums like In The Morning Light and Dancing In The Sun, and standout film roles in Half of a Yellow Sun and Lionheart.
