Popular activist and social media personality Scott Iguma has been granted bail by the Lagos State High Court, three days after he was detained on charges of criminal defamation involving real estate firm PWAN Group.

Iguma was remanded by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi last Thursday, following a ten-count charge alleging the publication of false information and defamation.

His arrest stemmed from a petition filed by PWAN Group, after Iguma publicly accused the company of defrauding investors. He backed his claims with more than 130 petitions submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that PWAN had sold “receipts instead of land” to unsuspecting buyers.

The arrest triggered widespread backlash across social media, with influencers such as Tunde Ednut, VeryDarkMan, Stanley Ontop, and musician Kokopee voicing strong opposition. Many accused PWAN and law enforcement of attempting to suppress a whistleblower.

In response, PWAN Group founder Augustine Onwumere denied orchestrating the arrest, claiming he only contacted the police to address issues raised in one of Iguma’s videos, in which the activist warned that PWAN should be held accountable if any harm came to him.

On Monday, musician Kokopee confirmed via social media that Iguma had been granted bail, and that his legal team was working swiftly to meet the court’s conditions.

“The judge has granted Scott Iguma bail. His legal team is working round the clock to fulfill all conditions. Nigerians must speak out—oppression must not go unchallenged. Injustice to one is injustice to all,” Kokopee said.

He also issued a pointed message to PWAN “If you’re innocent, show proof. The people are watching.”

When contacted for comment, Lagos State Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin said.

“The case is now in court. He was due for arraignment today. We have no further comment; it’s beyond our jurisdiction.”
