As part of efforts to revamp the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Director General Philip Shaibu is set to inaugurate a 32-member advisory committee on Monday, July 21. The inauguration will take place at the Awoture Eleyae Conference Hall, National Stadium, Lagos.
The committee, comprising distinguished figures from the fields of sports, academia, media, and corporate leadership, has been tasked with developing a transformative roadmap to reposition NIS as a world-class sports institute.
According to Shaibu, this initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises youth development and institutional reform.
Among the prominent individuals on the committee are Chairman of NNPC Ltd and President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Musa Ahmadu-Kida; CEO of Padmozi Sports International, Mike Itemuagbor; leading sports scientist Prof. Ken Anugweje; and sports administrator Dr. Kweku Tandoh.
The committee also includes respected ex-athletes such as Olympic medalist Mary Onyali, long jump legend Yusuf Ali, and former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen. Other notable members are retired referee Dr. Alex Mana; Prof. Florence Adeyanju; Prof. Clement Fasan; Prof. Raimi Moronfolu; and Prof. Sadiq Abdulahi.
Registrar of the NIS, Beldmond Benson, stated that the advisory body will provide strategic guidance aimed at elevating the institute to global standards.
