Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday, July 26, after both teams triumphed in their semi-final clashes.

The Falcons edged defending champions South Africa 2–1 in a tense encounter at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca. Morocco, meanwhile, secured their spot with a 4–2 penalty shootout win over Ghana after a 1–1 draw in regulation time.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade gave Nigeria the lead with a first-half penalty after Bomgeka Gamede handled the ball in the box. South Africa equalised in the 60th minute through a penalty converted by Linda Motlhalo, following a foul by Nigeria’s Osinachi Ohale on Magaia.

With the match heading toward extra time, Michelle Alozie struck in stoppage time with a long-range effort that beat everyone and nestled into the net her first goal for the senior national team sending Nigeria to their 10th WAFCON final.

Despite pressure from the South Africans, Nigeria held firm to continue their unbeaten record in WAFCON finals since the tournament’s inception in 1998.

The Super Falcons, now chasing a record-extending 10th continental title, will face a stern test against the host nation in front of a home crowd.
