TikTok has taken down more than 3.6 million videos uploaded by Nigerian users during the first quarter of 2025 for breaching its community guidelines. This was revealed in the platform’s Q1 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report.
The figure marks a significant 50% surge compared to the 2.4 million videos removed in the final quarter of 2024. The platform said it achieved a proactive detection rate of 98.4%, indicating that most of the removed videos were flagged and taken down before any user reports.
Additionally, 92.1% of the violating content was removed within 24 hours of being uploaded.
In March 2025, TikTok also cracked down on covert influence campaigns, removing 129 accounts tied to such operations across West Africa.
Globally, the company removed over 211 million videos in the same quarter—up from 153 million in Q4 2024. Of those, more than 184 million were identified and taken down using automated detection systems. TikTok’s global proactive detection rate reached 99%, demonstrating further improvements in quickly identifying harmful content.
The platform also deleted 44.7 million comments from fake accounts, reinforcing its fight against spam and artificial engagement.
“We remain vigilant in detecting external threats and safeguarding the platform from fake accounts and engagement,” the company stated. “These threats continue to test our systems, but we are committed to swiftly removing any content or activity that seeks to manipulate popularity on TikTok.”
