President Bola Tinubu has approved the full disbursement of allowances and match bonuses for the Super Falcons ahead of their showdown with Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the announcement on Thursday while addressing journalists in Abuja.
He confirmed that all financial entitlements including those for the final match scheduled for July 26 had already been released for immediate payment to players, coaching staff, and team officials.
Describing the move as “policy in motion,” Dikko said it reflects President Tinubu’s renewed commitment to the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
“This marks a new era of timely, drama-free payments. It’s now the standard going forward,” he said.
The initiative isn’t limited to football. Dikko also revealed that the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will receive enhanced allowances and bonuses as they gear up for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building one grounded in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” he added. “Future generations will look back and appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in this sector.”
