Super-Falcons-Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has honoured the Super Falcons with national awards and generous gifts following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.

During a reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday, the President conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-member technical team in recognition of their outstanding performance and unwavering spirit.

Commending the team for their resilience, determination, and courage, President Tinubu described the victory as “deeply symbolic and historic,” especially as it marked Nigeria’s record 10th WAFCON title.

As part of the reward package, each player received the cash equivalent of $100,000, while each member of the technical crew received $50,000. Additionally, the President announced the allocation of a three-bedroom apartment to every player and member of the technical staff.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, I confer the national honour of OON on you all. You’ve brought immense pride to our country,” Tinubu said. “I am pleased to also announce a gift of three-bedroom apartments and monetary rewards to celebrate your remarkable achievement. Congratulations once again, and I will continue to keep you in my prayers.”

The announcement sparked jubilation among the team members, who broke into chants of “Na our papa be this o,” dancing and celebrating within the Villa premises.

In a light-hearted moment, President Tinubu admitted that he avoided watching the final match live due to anxiety. “I didn’t want to have high blood pressure,” he said with a smile.

The Super Falcons secured their 10th continental title with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in a thrilling final on Saturday.
