The Super Falcons, fresh off their historic 10th WAFCON title win, are expected to arrive in Abuja today (Monday) for a hero’s welcome and trophy parade, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The Nigerian women’s national football team pulled off a stunning comeback on Saturday night, defeating host nation Morocco 3–2 in Rabat to lift the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title for a record-extending 10th time.

The NFF announced that the team will land at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by midday. From there, they’ll embark on an open-roof bus parade across key areas of the Federal Capital Territory  including Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market  before heading to the Presidential Villa to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

“We’re organizing a trophy parade with the players and their coaches in an open-roof bus,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi. “The route has been carefully planned to allow residents along the way to catch a glimpse of the WAFCON trophy.”

President Tinubu, who joined the players via video call on Sunday, expressed his pride and anticipation in welcoming the victorious squad.

“As a team, we are all proud of you,  the whole nation is proud of you,” Tinubu said. “You’ve lifted our spirits. We’ll celebrate you properly.”

He also praised the coaching staff, team management, and government officials who supported the campaign.

“Achieving a 10th WAFCON title is a major accomplishment for Nigeria and for the continent. Have a safe journey back home and take time to enjoy the moment.”

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, during the video call, thanked the President for authorizing the payment of team bonuses and promised to present the trophy in Abuja. Tinubu replied enthusiastically, “Good, I am looking forward to that.”

The Super Falcons’ latest victory adds to their continental dominance, having previously won the WAFCON in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
