Troops of Operation Safe Haven have thwarted a planned attack by intercepting a suspected bandit in Plateau State. The suspect was arrested Sunday night while lying in wait to ambush unsuspecting commuters along the Kafi Abu–Rakwok Road in Gashish District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

Spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, revealing that troops recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the suspect.

“The suspect was apprehended in an ambush position with the likely intent to attack passersby. He and the seized weapons are now in custody for further investigation,” the statement read.

Zhakom added that follow-up operations are underway to track down other members of the criminal group.

He also emphasized the military’s ongoing crackdown on illegal possession of firearms within the Joint Operations Area and urged citizens to provide credible information to support security efforts in the region.
