The United Arab Emirates has introduced stricter entry requirements for Nigerian travellers and has completely suspended the issuance of transit visas, according to travel agents who confirmed the new policy on Tuesday.

Under the latest immigration directives from Dubai, Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 45 will no longer be eligible to apply for tourist visas unless they are accompanied.

For individuals aged 45 and above, applicants must now submit a personal bank statement covering the past six months, with each month showing a minimum closing balance of \$10,000 or its equivalent in naira.

Travel agents say the new rules will likely lead to a sharp drop in travel between Nigeria and Dubai — a popular destination for both tourism and business.

The advisory also emphasized that before submitting visa applications, travellers must meet these new financial and age-related requirements in addition to providing standard documents like hotel bookings and a passport data page.
