Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with multiple sexual offences by the UK’s Metropolitan Police, following an investigation.
In a statement released on Friday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed it had approved charges after reviewing a file submitted by police detectives.
“The CPS has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge a man after examining the evidence presented. Thomas Partey, 32, of Hertfordshire, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault,” the statement read.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey, whose contract with Arsenal ended earlier this week, is now set to appear in court.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is overseeing the case, emphasized the importance of supporting the victims.
“Our focus remains on providing the necessary support to the women involved,” Furphy said. “We also encourage anyone affected by this case or who has relevant information to contact our team via [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).”
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5.
