The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has hailed the Super Falcons’ victory at the 2024/2025 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as a “historic achievement,” calling it a powerful symbol of the strength and resilience of Nigerian women.
Nigeria’s women’s national football team clinched their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday night after a tense final against host nation Morocco in Rabat.
The hard-fought win cements the Super Falcons’ status as the most successful women’s football team in Africa.
“This is more than just a win on the pitch,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said in a statement released by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jonathan Eze. “It’s a testament to the strength, discipline, and unbreakable spirit of Nigerian women.”
She praised the team’s composure, teamwork, and determination, describing the victory as a source of national pride and a beacon of hope for young girls across Nigeria.
“The Super Falcons have shown that when Nigerian women lead, they inspire an entire nation and shine brightly on the global stage,” she added.
The Minister extended special congratulations to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their unwavering support for the team and Nigerian sports in general under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“As Minister of Women Affairs, I am deeply proud. Tonight, every Nigerian girl sees a reflection of her dreams in your triumph. You have lifted more than a trophy—you’ve lifted the hopes of a nation,” the statement read.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to policies and initiatives that promote the empowerment of women and girls, not just in sports but across all sectors of society.
