Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated his commitment to repositioning Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, into a world-class institution before the end of his tenure.
Oyebanji, an alumnus and former lecturer of the university, expressed delight over the progress recorded so far under his administration, noting that the institution was gradually regaining stability. “Our university is out of the intensive care unit now; what we need to do is stabilise it,” he said.
The governor made this known on Thursday in Ado Ekiti during a presentation by the EKSU Alumni Association, which formally handed over the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms they had purchased on his behalf to support his re-election bid in the June 2026 governorship election.
Expressing gratitude for the gesture, Oyebanji described it as an uncommon display of love and confidence. He pledged to continue making alumni proud through people-focused policies, inclusive governance, and sustainable development.
He highlighted some of his administration’s interventions at EKSU, including the reconstitution of the governing council and management, increased subventions to the institution, and other measures aimed at strengthening its operations. “By the time we leave office, we will have built a university that is world-class. The process has started, and I assure you, we will not relent,” he added.
Oyebanji also commended the alumni for their support, describing it as a reminder to politicians that the people are paying attention to their conduct.
In his remarks, EKSU Alumni Global President, Mr. Seyi Idowu, said the alumni had launched the “EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO” to drive grassroots and online campaigns for Oyebanji’s re-election. He described the governor’s leadership as outstanding, noting that he had raised the bar of governance in Ekiti State.
“The decision to buy the nomination forms for Governor Oyebanji was a demonstration of our confidence in his leadership. His impressive track record and commitment to the welfare of the people make him the right choice to continue leading the state,” Idowu stated.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the solidarity group and immediate past EKSU Alumni Global President, Dipo Bamisaye, explained that the move was informed by Oyebanji’s “exceptional performance, vision, and character.”
Bamisaye outlined some of the governor’s achievements within three years, including fostering peace in the political and business space, infrastructural renewal, increased subventions to tertiary institutions, and clearing outstanding gratuities.
