As the people of Osun state warm up for the 2026 governorshio election, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr. Mutiu Agboke has reiterated his commitment to ensuring votes of every resident count.

Agboke made this declaration on Thursday while featuring at the 9th edition of the Online Publishers Association.

“All I can assure every Osun person is that their votes will count. We’ll ensure transparency of the process and level playing ground for everyone,” Agboke said.

While speaking on the massive turnout for online continuous voters registration, Agboke attributed the feat achieved in Osun to early sensitization the commission embarked upon before the process commenced.

The INEC boss said, “long before the process commenced, we have embarked on rigorous sensitization to nooks and crannies of Osun. We met with traditional institution, religious bodies, transport unions, market women, the media and other critical stakeholders. So whatever we are having now is not surprising.”

He assured residents that the technology deployed by the Commission has capacity to detect and prevent multiple registrations.

Agboke also disclosed that the Commission has prosecuted six electoral offenders who were arrested during the last elections in the state. He also called for stricter penalties for electoral offences.
