The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has distanced itself from recent remarks made by Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed criticizing the opposition coalition, insisting his views are personal and do not reflect the party’s stance.

In a statement from Deputy National Publicity Secretary Jackie Wayas, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, had appeared on Politics Today on Channels TV, where he dismissed the coalition as deceptive and ineffective, while declaring his intention to run again with Peter Obi.

The ADC, however, responded firmly, asserting that the coalition represents a serious and inclusive effort to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

The party emphasized that the alliance was born from wide consultations and includes key national figures who have put patriotism above party loyalty to achieve a common goal of competent, compassionate governance.

It also reiterated that Peter Obi had previously endorsed the ADC as the coalition’s official platform for the 2027 elections, underscoring the importance of unity in challenging the entrenched systems fostering poverty and insecurity.

While affirming that Baba-Ahmed’s comments were not reflective of the coalition’s or the ADC’s position, the party acknowledged his long-standing reputation for integrity and justice.

It expressed hope that he would eventually align with the collective vision for national transformation.

Concluding its statement, the ADC urged Nigerians to support the opposition coalition, calling for unity and clarity in the fight for a better Nigeria.
