A faction of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, led by Oba Olaitan Oladapo, along with key allies of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The closed-door meeting, held at Obasanjo’s residence, centered on national unity and strategies for the 2027 presidential election.
Afenifere’s Secretary General, Sola Ebiseni, confirmed the attendance of several political figures, including Obasanjo’s former adviser, Prof. Akin Osuntokun, and John Ughulu, who coordinated Obi’s 2023 campaign in Lagos.
Speaking after the meeting, Osuntokun underscored the need for inclusive governance “Nigeria belongs to all its citizens. No region has an exclusive right to lead. National stability depends on fairness, justice, and rejecting any ethnic group’s sense of entitlement.”
Ebiseni echoed this sentiment, advocating for a united opposition while emphasizing the importance of upholding regional power rotation.
“The APC came to power in 2013 through a coalition that respected the North-South rotation, paving the way for Buhari.
After a Southern presidency, any credible political alliance must respect that balance to preserve national unity.”
