Godswill Akpabio

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Gbenga Daniel (APC, Ogun East), has dismissed media reports claiming that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was hospitalised in London.

Daniel, who made a brief stop in London, said he personally met Akpabio to inform him of his planned return to Nigeria to participate in the August 16 bye-election for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat. The seat became vacant following the death of former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.

Speaking during the visit, Daniel told Akpabio: “The news out there is that you have been indisposed, but seeing you here now paints a very different picture. Congratulations, Your Excellency.”

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio thanked Daniel for the courtesy visit and expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the bye-election. He attributed this optimism to the support of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Daniel, and other party stakeholders.

“Let me congratulate you in advance,” Akpabio said. “You and the Governor are both from the constituency, so I have no fears about the outcome.”

Addressing the rumours about his health, Akpabio added: “If you listen to social media, you will go to war.”
