The Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized Governor Chukwuma Soludo over his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu, insisting it will not prevent his defeat in the upcoming November governorship election.
In a statement from Okechukwu Modebe, spokesperson for the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, the APC described Soludo’s meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as “the last kick of a dying horse” and a desperate attempt to revive the governor’s dwindling political influence.
Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), met Tinubu on Tuesday and pledged support for the President’s 2027 re-election campaign — a move APC claims is being misrepresented as a political endorsement.
“This latest photo opportunity with the President cannot erase four years of misgovernance, disconnect from the grassroots, and political missteps,” the statement said.
“Presenting such meetings as endorsements is an insult to the intelligence of Anambra voters.”
Modebe affirmed APC’s commitment to the November governorship election and the August 16 Anambra South senatorial re-run, describing their candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, as a “political iron-gate” ready to challenge APGA’s fading influence.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure free and fair elections, warning that “the era of business-as-usual in Anambra politics is over.”
Meanwhile, President Tinubu praised Soludo’s visit, calling it a pleasure to welcome “my friend of over two decades” to the Aso Villa. On his verified Facebook page, Tinubu said they discussed reforms, security issues, and creating inclusive opportunities for Nigeria’s youth.
“We share a firm belief that all progressives must work together to deepen democracy, strengthen security, and transform the economy,” he wrote.
“We remain committed to ensuring sustainable and shared prosperity for Nigeria’s future.”
