Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) poses a significant threat to Nigeria’s unity and development, calling for a nationwide effort to unseat the party in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai, who was in Sokoto State on Saturday as part of a grassroots mobilisation tour, held meetings with political stakeholders, youth groups, and women from all 23 local government areas. During the engagements, he criticised the APC-led government, describing it as “clannish and incompetent.”
“If we hand this country over to the APC again in 2027, we risk losing what remains of our national cohesion and developmental progress,” he warned. “This is no longer just politics, this is a battle for the soul of Nigeria.”
El-Rufai stated that he joined politics to serve the people, not for personal gain. He said it was his responsibility, as a concerned citizen and political elder, to take a stand when leadership fails.
“I came into politics not to make money but to serve. When a government no longer serves its people, silence is complicity. As a senior citizen, I have to speak out and act,” he said.
The former governor also revealed that the opposition coalition has chosen the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 elections. He described the decision as a strategic step to rally Nigerians behind a united and credible alternative to the APC.
“This coalition is not about individuals or ambitions, it’s about putting Nigeria first,” he said.
El-Rufai assured that the coalition would intensify efforts to mobilise citizens nationwide to reject the current ruling party at the ballot.
Also speaking at the event, a prominent opposition figure in Sokoto, Abubakar Gada, reinforced the coalition’s commitment to delivering competent and transparent leadership at both state and federal levels.
