President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates on their strong showing in the by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, across 16 constituencies in 12 states. The APC emerged victorious in 12 of the constituencies.
The results were announced in a statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to Onanuga, aside from the APC’s wins, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each won one seat.
President Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting largely peaceful and transparent elections, with minimal disruptions.
He also praised the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for leading the party to its first significant electoral success under his leadership.
“Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has shown commendable leadership and proven what unity and credible candidates can achieve,” the president said.
He also expressed gratitude to party members and voters “To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for your trust in our party. Our ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda is more than a slogan—it’s a commitment to building a secure and prosperous Nigeria. We will deliver, by God’s grace.”
Tinubu extended appreciation to all parties and candidates who took part in the by-elections, urging continued commitment to peaceful, fair, and democratic processes.
