Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has officially announced his intention to seek a second term in office, citing broad-based public support and the need to build on the achievements of his first term.
The declaration was made on Monday during a meeting with the Central Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.
Oyebanji said his decision was informed by the encouragement he had received from various segments of society, including traditional rulers, professionals, civil servants, artisans, youth organisations, market associations, transport unions, and political figures across party lines. He stressed the need to consolidate the gains made so far under his administration and continue delivering quality governance.
The governor expressed gratitude to the APC leadership for their trust and support, stating that he has fulfilled the campaign promises made to both the party and the people of the state. He also highlighted key achievements of his administration within three years in office.
Reaffirming his commitment to democratic values and internal party unity, Oyebanji insisted that the APC in Ekiti remains united and without internal crisis. He identified former Governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi as respected leaders within the party hierarchy.
“I want to sincerely thank you all for your support, sacrifices, and steadfastness in holding the party together. On behalf of myself, the Deputy Governor, and other political officeholders, we are truly grateful for your prayers and encouragement,” Oyebanji said.
“I am formally declaring my intention to run for a second term. I seek your continued support and prayers, and I assure you that I will continue to serve with humility and respect,” he added.
He also urged eligible voters across the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the June 2026 governorship election to ensure full participation in the electoral process.
In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Ekiti State, Barr. Sola Elesin, lauded the governor for his inclusive leadership style and unwavering commitment to the development of the state and the party. He described Oyebanji as a bridge-builder whose humility and performance have won him admiration from both party faithful and the wider public.
Among those present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro; Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo; and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Jide Awe.
