Chelsea are moving closer to sealing a deal for Alejandro Garnacho after resuming negotiations with Manchester United, sources have confirmed.
The 21-year-old winger, who has been told he can leave Old Trafford this summer, has not featured under new manager Ruben Amorim since the end of last season. Garnacho was also left out of United’s preseason tour of the United States, instead training with fellow outcasts Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Antony.
While Rashford has since joined Barcelona on loan, United have struggled to find suitors for their other unwanted players. Garnacho earlier rejected an approach from Bayern Munich, making it clear that his preferred destination was Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea had shown interest as far back as the January transfer window, though a move failed to materialise. The Blues also revisited the deal earlier this summer but stalled over United’s £50 million ($67m) asking price, with Chelsea only willing to pay £30 million ($40m).
However, with Chelsea making progress in player sales including moves involving Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to comply with UEFA financial regulations, talks have now been revived.
Negotiations between the two clubs are said to be advancing positively, with discussions centering on a fee in the region of £35m–£40m. Although no agreement has yet been finalised, both sides are confident a deal could be wrapped up before the transfer deadline on Monday, 7 p.m. BST.
