Former Big Brother Naija star and entrepreneur, Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has stirred debate online with her outspoken views on love, relationships, and life abroad.
Speaking on The Podcast Network on YouTube, Tacha urged young women to take charge of their love lives and avoid rushing into commitments.
“You need three other boyfriends in your life… I’m not saying sleep with them all, but at least have options. You just never really know,” she said.
She advised women to remain independent until marriage, stressing: “Every girl should be single until she’s actually married. Don’t let your boyfriend stop you from meeting your husband.”
According to her, women face different societal pressures than men, which makes it important for them to be smart and strategic in relationships. “The kind of grace that guys have is not the same kind of grace that we have. So, we need to move differently,” she added.
Tacha also reflected on her experiences living abroad, admitting that while life in Nigeria is challenging, it can be even harder overseas.
“As much as it’s tough in Nigeria, it’s also tough abroad, sometimes even tougher,” she said, noting that many Nigerians abroad struggle with loneliness and financial pressures despite portraying glamorous lifestyles online.
She revealed how some avoid returning home out of fear of being mocked. “A lot of people abroad don’t want to come back because they feel people will say, ‘I went abroad, couldn’t make it, and came back.’”
Sharing a personal experience, she recalled losing two of her luggage items in Paris, adding that such struggles are rarely visible on social media.
For her, the sense of community in Nigeria makes life more bearable. “Here, you can go to your local shop and say, ‘Mama Ki, give me something worth ₦7,000, I’ll pay at the end of the month.’ There’s more to be happy about here than in the UK,” she said.
Tacha further encouraged Nigerians to channel their outspoken and resilient nature into demanding positive change. “With how loud and rugged we are, we should use that energy to get what we want in this country. It took a long time to get here, and it will also take time to change how the world views Nigeria,” she concluded.
