Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has approved the suspension of three public officials, in line with the resolution earlier passed by the State House of Assembly.

The affected officials are: the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, Mr. Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mrs. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Mr. Michael Uper. Each of them is to serve a one-month suspension.

The decision, announced in a statement on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, comes after weeks of tension between the executive and legislative arms over the delay in implementing the Assembly’s directive.

The statement emphasized that Governor Alia’s approval takes immediate effect, stressing his commitment to upholding the rule of law, due process, and the principle of separation of powers.

“Governor Alia commends the House of Assembly for discharging its constitutional duties and reassures the people of Benue State that his administration remains firmly committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance,” the statement read in part.

The governor further urged the affected institutions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period while calling on citizens to continue supporting his administration’s efforts to build a state that works for all.
