A yet-to-be-identified man was shot dead inside a commercial bus along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Wednesday, July 30.

Reports indicate that the deceased boarded the vehicle at Agbara and was on his way to Okoafo when the attack occurred near the Winnys bus stop.

According to a witness, identified only as Fatai, the bus had stopped to drop off a passenger when two men on a motorcycle approached and shot the victim at close range.

“The incident happened in the afternoon. We just saw some people gathered around a bus along the ECOWAS Road, and when I moved closer, I saw someone sitting lifeless in the bus,” Fatai said.

“Other passengers on the bus told us that the man had boarded at Agbara and was heading to Okoafo. So, the moment the bus stopped at the Winnys bus-stop to drop off one of the passengers, two men on a motorcycle parked by the bus and shot the deceased passenger at close range. They fled the spot on their motorcycle after shooting the man.”

He added, “There is every possibility that they might have trailed him to that spot. The whole area was thrown into confusion when we got to the spot.”

Another eyewitness, Motilola, who shared a video clip of the scene, said the man had no form of identification on him.

“No one could recognise the man, and there was also no means of identification on him. Some people took a video of him to share online, in case any of his relatives could identify him. Although his body was taken away by the police later in the evening.”

The video reportedly showed the victim sitting motionless beside the driver while holding a brown leather bag.

Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful, as calls to his line went unanswered and a message sent to him was not replied to as of press time.
