Nigerian celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, has been spotted in a widely circulated video preparing a test batch of jollof rice in an enormous custom-built pot.
The video, which features Baci surrounded by assistants and onlookers, captures part of her preparations for an ambitious attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The official attempt is scheduled for September 12, 2025, at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos, during the Gino World Jollof Festival a celebration of West African cuisine, culture, and music.
Attendance is free, and the event will feature live performances to complement the festivities.
Baci, who gained global recognition after setting the 2023 Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, says the new challenge is more than just a bid for the record books.
“Six metres wide. Six metres tall. On September 12, we make history together. Because what is jollof without you to share it with?” she wrote in a recent Instagram post.
