President Bola Tinubu has appointed former House of Representatives member, Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, as the new Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

The appointment, announced in a statement on Monday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, comes just hours after the reappointment of Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, whose tenure was reportedly marred by controversy.

Omidiran takes over from Dankaka, while Mohammed Musa has been named the Commission’s Secretary. The President also retained Kayode Oladele, a former House of Representatives member from Ogun State, who had served as the FCC’s acting chairman in 2024.

In addition, Tinubu renewed the appointments of Lawal Ya’u Roni (Jigawa), Eludayo Eluyemi  and Abubakar Atiku Bunu (Kebbi) for a second term.

The President also reappointed Abdulwasiu Kayode Bawalla as Lagos State commissioner and approved the appointment of several new commissioners from across the country.

Ebonyi: Barr. Nwokpor Vincent Nduka

Edo: Hon. Chief Victor Sabor Edoror

Ekiti: Hon. Sola Fokanle

Enugu: Peter Eze

Gombe: Ibrahim Baba Mairiga

The sweeping changes within some hours signal a major reconstitution of the FCC’s leadership, aimed at strengthening the agency’s mandate of promoting fairness and inclusivity in federal appointments and resource distribution.
