Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has made it clear that he has no intention of contesting any political office in the 2027 elections.

According to him, his renewed presence in politics is solely to support credible leadership at both the state and national levels.

Speaking in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving a group of former PDP youth members who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello, El-Rufai took a swipe at the current administration, accusing it of deceit and poor governance.

“This government lies daily. The truth is obvious to everyone. I’m not running for Senate or any position. I urge all of you let’s unite and push out the oppressors,” he said.

El-Rufai explained that his initial plan after leaving office was to retire from partisan politics. However, he said the worsening political climate has drawn him back not to seek power, but to help guide the country in the right direction.

“I intended to step back and rest. But with the way things are going, I feel compelled to return not to contest, but to support those who can lead with honesty and competence,” he added.

He reaffirmed his commitment to mentoring young people, women, and reform-driven individuals, urging them to step into political and leadership roles.

El-Rufai also emphasized the importance of voter registration, especially among the youth.

“In Lagos and Osun, over 600,000 have registered, but only 60,000 in Kaduna. Anyone aged 18 and above can register even from your phone. That’s how you take ownership of your future,” he urged.

He cautioned against political apathy and stressed the need to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

In his remarks, Aliyu Bello reiterated his focus on empowering the youth and discouraging political thuggery.
