The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (aka KWAM 1), following allegations of unruly behaviour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, that allegedly disrupted aircraft operations.

Police spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed on Tuesday that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had submitted a formal petition regarding the August 5 incident, citing violations of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.

Following the petition, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

“The Nigeria Police Force has received an official petition from NCAA over an alleged incident involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, accused of obstructing the safe operation of an aircraft. The IGP has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the facts and ensure justice is served,” Adejobi stated.

He further emphasized the Force’s commitment to aviation safety and law enforcement collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

On August 5, KWAM 1 reportedly caused a scene while boarding a ValueJet flight to Lagos. The dispute began when he attempted to carry a flask suspected to contain alcohol, which is prohibited onboard.

He refused to surrender it when asked by aviation staff and allegedly obstructed the aircraft from taxiing.

In response, the NCAA placed KWAM 1 on a six-month no-fly list and suspended the flight crew Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Iloba pending investigations.

KWAM 1 has since issued a public apology, stating that he had no intention of breaching aviation protocols or causing disruption.

However, public outcry for his prosecution intensified after another passenger, Comfort Emmanson, was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting flight crew on a separate Ibom Air flight. Critics have since called for equal treatment under the law.
