Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that his political ambition is not about a personal quest to become Nigeria’s president but about ensuring the country achieves good governance and prosperity.

Speaking on Saturday at an affirmation ceremony for new defectors into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos, Atiku represented by Professor Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo stressed that his focus is on building a better Nigeria rather than on occupying the nation’s top seat at all costs.

“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. It’s not about him being president by any means necessary; it’s about ensuring that the country has a government that works for its citizens,” Olateju said on his behalf.

He described the ADC not merely as a political party but as a movement of Nigerians united for national transformation. “This is a new beginning, a new journey for Nigeria. The mission is not about Atiku or any individual, but about delivering a nation that can truly cater to its people,” he added.

Addressing the country’s current economic hardship, particularly the impact of fuel subsidy removal and rising inflation, Atiku maintained that with quality leadership, Nigeria could overcome its challenges and thrive again.

On the 2027 presidential race, Atiku insisted that the choice of ADC’s candidate would rest with party members through a free and fair process. “It is not for us to predetermine. Whoever emerges will carry the collective voice and aspiration of Nigerians. The focus is not Atiku at all costs or Obi at all costs, it is about a better Nigeria,” he affirmed.

He further expressed confidence that God would use the coalition within the ADC to help reposition the country for greatness.
