The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will begin nationwide on Monday, August 18, 2025, in preparation for the forthcoming general elections.

In a statement released via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, INEC revealed that online pre-registration will be accessible from August 18 through its portal: cvr.inecnigeria.org.

The Commission further stated that physical registration at INEC offices across the 774 local government areas, as well as designated centres nationwide, will kick off on Monday, August 25, 2025. The exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

INEC encouraged all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of this opportunity to participate in the democratic process.

“This exercise targets Nigerians who have recently reached voting age and those who were unable to register in previous exercises,” the Commission said. “Eligible citizens are urged to either begin the process online or visit our designated centres once physical registration begins.”

INEC also clarified that the CVR is not limited to new registrants. It will also cater to those seeking to transfer their voting locations, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal details such as names or dates of birth.

Reiterating its commitment to a transparent and inclusive process, the Commission said, “INEC remains dedicated to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has the chance to vote. We are taking deliberate steps to make the registration process accessible and credible.”
