The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a member of the party.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba addressed growing speculation about the 2027 presidential election, especially following the party’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South.
“President Jonathan is still a member of this party because he has not resigned,” Ologunagba stated.
When asked about the possibility of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi returning to the PDP, Ologunagba declined to comment, noting that Obi has not indicated any plans to rejoin the party.
“Mr. Obi contested the last election under a different party. Until he shows interest in returning, it would be inappropriate for me to speculate,” he said.
Ologunagba emphasized that the PDP remains strong, with many capable leaders ready to contest for the presidency.
“We have an abundance of qualified individuals in our party. Nigerians are aware of that,” he said.
He also praised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde whose name has been floated as a potential presidential candidate calling him one of the party’s standout figures.
“Governor Makinde is one of our poster boys. His performance, leadership, and ability to connect with Nigerians have made him a key figure in the PDP,” Ologunagba added.
