An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos, has discharged Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger previously charged with unruly behavior and assault aboard a recent flight.
Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the case on Wednesday following the prosecution’s formal withdrawal of all five charges filed by the police.
The decision comes after an announcement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who revealed that the charges were dropped after consultations with key aviation stakeholders.
Keyamo stated that the move followed a thorough review of the incident, appeals from the public, and expressions of remorse from the parties involved.
He also confirmed that Ibom Air had officially withdrawn its complaint relating to the August 10 incident.
Emmanson had been arraigned on Monday and was granted bail set at N500,000 with two sureties. However, she was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the bail terms.
At the Wednesday hearing, prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of the latest developments and filed a formal application to discontinue the case an application that was granted by the court.
