In a significant political development, numerous members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Dawakin Tofa former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s home constituency have switched allegiance to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, officially received the defectors during a ceremony at the Government House in Kano.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor described the defection as a clear vote of confidence in his administration’s performance over the past two years.
He recalled his 2023 campaign that spanned all 44 local government areas of Kano and emphasized Dawakin Tofa’s pivotal role in that journey.
Governor Yusuf highlighted his administration’s efforts in the area, including the completion of a previously neglected five-kilometre road and plans for a new school.
He assured the new NNPP members of full inclusion in the party’s structure and reiterated his commitment to delivering on developmental promises.
Looking ahead, the governor unveiled a plan to restructure the Dawanau International Market into a government-managed agency, complete with a board and a managing director to improve accountability and efficiency.
He also praised the local government chairman for generating N500 million internally to fund community projects.
Achievements cited in the area include the upgrading of 15 primary schools and the sponsorship of over a thousand students in higher education.
The NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, also spoke at the event, expressing confidence that Dawakin Tofa would outperform the party’s previous electoral successes.
