The Kebbi State Police Command has thwarted a kidnap attempt in Kesan village, Shanga Local Government Area, rescuing a 25-year-old victim from armed abductors.

Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said in a statement on Sunday that the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when gunmen invaded the community and abducted Abdulmumini Alhaji Ahmadu.

“On receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga swiftly mobilised a combined team of police operatives and vigilante members who chased the kidnappers into the forest.

“During the rescue, the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg after the criminals opened fire while attempting to escape,” the statement read.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment.

Commending the joint operation, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani hailed the swift action of officers and vigilantes, assuring that the command remains committed to tackling violent crimes in the state.

“This rescue is another demonstration of our commitment to rid the state of violent crimes. We will not relent in our efforts to safeguard every community,” Sani said.

He urged residents to stay alert and support security agencies with credible information to aid crime prevention. The CP further stressed that security is a shared responsibility, calling for stronger collaboration between security operatives and the public in defeating banditry and other threats to peace.
