Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, has refuted claims of misconduct at the Abuja airport, stating he was wrongly portrayed as the aggressor in an incident now under investigation by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
In a statement issued by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, Kwam 1 denied breaching aviation protocol during a ValueJet boarding process on August 5.
He emphasized that the item which attracted security attention was “plain drinking water” provided at the lounge not a banned substance.
“The reports suggesting unruly behavior are exaggerated and misleading,” the statement read. “Despite respectfully clarifying the situation, the issue was needlessly escalated.”
Dismissing allegations that he disrupted airport operations or delayed the flight, the veteran musician said he fully adheres to aviation rules and often travels without incident.
Kwam 1 further revealed that ValueJet’s Chairman and Managing Director personally apologized for the misunderstanding and even offered him a private jet to Lagos an offer he declined.
“Had there been any misconduct, senior airport security officials and airline management would not have reached out to apologize or offer such compensation,” the statement added.
He also noted that only he and his personal assistant were involved in the incident, and several passengers urged him to remain calm during the ordeal.
Commenting on the pilot involved, Kwam 1 said her license has since been suspended and implied that she may be attempting to deflect blame.
“It’s no surprise if she tries to cover up her actions,” he stated.
Kwam 1 urged the public and media to avoid sensational reporting and allow the investigation to uncover the facts.
“Let truth, not assumptions, shape public judgment,” the statement concluded.
FAAN has launched an investigation into the incident, which has sparked broader discussions around celebrity behavior, airport security, and corporate accountability in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
